Michael Goldberg

Elected as Village Trustee in 2007, Michael Goldberg has consistently and openly represented the voice of Village residents, kept a keen eye toward fiscal responsibility, and demonstrated the ability to make tough decisions.

Immediately after being elected, Michael began working with the Cecil Group to develop a formal vision plan for downtown redevelopment, incorporating extensive community input into a blueprint for South Orange's future. Michael also understands the needs and concerns of South Orange taxpayers. He continues to be the Board's driving force in encouraging better management, transparency, and fiscal performance for SOPAC, and has worked tirelessly to help control Village spending by studying every budget line item and suggesting shared services, privatization, and other creative ways to reduce costs. Michael has demonstrated his commitment to open, honest, transparent government by initiating better Village communications (such as an online project status report and police blotter) and by making himself fully accessible to residents via phone, e-mail, or Village Visions, his personal blog.

Michael's committee work includes: Chair, Public Safety Committee; member of Finance and Public Works Committee; Liaison to Public Information and Marketing Committee, First Night, Old Stone House Task Force, and Parking Authority.

Prior to his election, Michael had already built an impressive resume of community action and leadership. He was the co-founder and treasurer of the Coalition to Preserve South Orange, working closely with Janine Bauer to preserve Village open space. He founded Villagers for a Better South Orange and led other community awareness campaigns aimed at improving Village government and maintaining our wonderful lifestyle in South Orange.

Michael is a Certified Project Management Professional and works as an Engagement Manager for Microsoft. He holds an MBA from the Stern School at New York University and a B.S. in Computer Science from Georgia Tech. A ten-year Village resident, Michael lives in the upper Wyoming neighborhood with his wife, Amy and daughter, Stephanie who is a first-grader at South Mountain Annex.
