A 17-year South Orange resident and homeowner, Douglas Newman brings years of experience as a volunteer and professional, along with a deep understanding of and commitment to South Orange. As a founding member of the ground-breaking South Orange–Maplewood 2006 Joint Study Commission referendum initiative, approved by 63 percent of South Orange voters, he was elected to become a member of the study commission. As chair of the S.O. Downtown Management Corporation Committee, he orchestrated a 2005 recommendation, adopted in principle by the Board of Trustees, to form a Downtown Management and Redevelopment Corporation. In addition, he chairs Main Street South Orange's Economic Development Committee.

 

A results-driven, entrepreneurial, senior executive, Mr. Newman has 28 years of product and business development, marketing, operations, technology, and management experience, including P&L responsibility, across a broad spectrum of financial and information businesses, including Citigroup, Bank of America, and MasterCard Worldwide. He holds a B.A. with distinction in economics from the University of Pennsylvania and an M.B.A. in finance and marketing from the University of Chicago.
