PURE PROGRESS PROMISES TO END THE "COMING SOON" ERA IN SOUTH ORANGE
South Orange, NJ (February 26, 2007)—Pledging an end to the Village's "coming soon" era, Pure Progress today announced an opposition slate of candidates committed to making South Orange a premier community through new municipal leadership.
Pure Progress is led by long-time South Orange resident and business executive Douglas Newman, who is running for Village President. Other Pure Progress candidates include incumbent Trustee Mark Rosner and challengers Deborah Davis Ford, Howard Levison, and Michael Goldberg.
"South Orange is a terrific community with tremendous people and potential but residents clearly are frustrated," stated Mr. Newman. "In recent years we have seen neighboring towns improve while our Village has lagged behind. We have acres of undeveloped lots in our downtown, taxes are too high and so is our Village debt-burden. Our infrastructure, including historic government buildings, like the Baird Center and Village Hall, are in desperate need of repairs. Villagers repeatedly have been disappointed and discouraged by missed timetables and broken "coming soon" promises. Residents want and need new leadership that can deliver on the full potential of our Village."
"We're looking forward to starting a productive dialogue with Village residents," added Newman. "During the course of the campaign we'll share our plans, vision and specific recommendations with Village residents. Pure Progress is about engaging our residents, listening to their needs and building a strong cooperative relationship. It will be critical for Village Hall and residents to work closely together so we can finally get the job done in South Orange."
The Pure Progress campaign officially kicks-off on Thursday, March1st, at 7pm, when supporters and all those interested in learning more are invited to attend a kick-off party at Cryan's Beef & Ale House on First Street in downtown South Orange.
